For any skincare regime, it is essential to use a good facial exfoliant. Based on your exfoliant choice, a good recommendation would be to exfoliate 2 to 3 times weekly. This way, you will get rid of dead skin cells, yet not damage your skin. Furthermore, it will also cleanse your pores and give your skin a shiny, refreshed look.
Should I exfoliate daily?
Before you decide to exfoliate your skin daily, there’s something you need to know. Using an exfoliant strips your skin of the natural oils it produces and can become irritated and more sensitive if you use it every day. Even more important when looking long-term, daily exfoliating can lead to thinner skin, which results in increased skin wrinkling.
Simply put, if you exfoliate regularly, the cell renewal process of your skin can become slower because the skin, as a smart organ, renews itself by letting the old cells die while new, young cells replace them. If you give the “signal” to your skin that it doesn’t have to get rid of the dead cells on its own, it will slow down the production of new cells.
How often should I exfoliate?
If you have sensitive skin, you shouldn’t exfoliate more than once a week because it can damage your skin. If your skin type is a combination of normal and sensitive skin, or completely normal, you can allow yourself a 2 or 3 exfoliations per week.
What exfoliants should to use?
The best types of exfoliants are those that remove the dead skin cells mechanically through friction, and are also capable of dissolving the dead cells with acids or enzymes. This way, you have an exfoliant that allows you to rub harder in those greasier areas, and be gentler with a lighter touch on areas that are more sensitive. Also, your exfoliants should be capable of reducing skin-breakouts and inflammation.
The two products that we like are Joanna Vargas Exfoliating Mask with galactoarabinan anti-inflammatory agents; and the Juara Radiance Enzyme Scrub because it comes with apple and cinnamon enzymes for gentle purification of your skin and bamboo and Jojoba beads to allow you to easily and effortlessly scrub dead cells away.
